The 2024 U.S. Gymnastics Team’s Journey to Olympic Gold

In the summer of 2024, Simone Biles, Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey, and Hezly Rivera made history. Together, the five gymnasts made up the U.S. women’s gymnastics team that won hearts and multiple gold medals at the Paris Olympics. But the five athletes accomplished more in Paris than their gold, silver, and bronze hardware. Together, they achieved redemption. In the years leading up to Paris, each gymnast underwent unprecedented challenges that complicated their paths to making the 2024 Olympic team. Simone overcame online backlash stemming from her withdrawal from the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Suni's health issues put her entire gymnastics career in jeopardy. For all five athletes, the obstacles sometimes seemed insurmountable.

They were counted out. Their work ethic was questioned. Their bodies failed them. But the five women refused to let any obstacle stand in their way. They didn't just win gold: they flipped the script.
